Gummi Resurrection 12

When last we saw Red, he had been slain by his nemesis, the Green Gummi. Centuries later, all that remains of his memory is his weathered, wind-beaten gravestone. At least, that's what was thought, until some future Gummi archaeologists stumbled upon his grave. In the name of their science, they started digging, hoping to find some long lost relic that might help them understand their ancestors. Imagine their surprise when they stumbled upon Red himself, somehow encased in ice, perfectly preserved after all those years. The lab was abuzz with excitement. They had spent most of their lives dreaming up a way to restore a life once lost. All they needed was a suitable specimen. Today, it would finally arrive. The scientists could hardly contain themselves. "My Gum, can you believe it?" "This is the most exciting day of my life." "Finally, the fruition of all our work!" The long, arduous work began, any missteps could prove fatal to their subject, and their careers. "Finally, we've successfully removed him from the ice. Now to see if we can revive him"

"Wh... where am I? Who are you? What am I doing here?"

Frightened, Red cowered in the corner as the scientists explained.
"You see Red, we have brought you back from the dead. We want to study you... to learn about the past... how our ancestors lived."

"Ancestors? How long have I been dead?"

"We're not exactly sure, but it has been centuries."

"So then, my family is dead too... and my friends... and everyone I've ever cared about?"

"I'm afraid so."

The scientists left him to process all that had happened to him. His tortured mind couldn't stop from swirling.

"I've never felt so alone before. Everyone I cared about is gone. Everything I know has changed. There's nothing left for me. I'm not supposed to be here, this isn't right."

In the morning, the scientists came to check on Red. They were horrified by what they saw.

"Come quick! He's dead!"

"I knew it would be too much to bear."

"The mental strain must have been unbelievable."

"What have we done?"
